Abstract

We propose to make a 1 billion particle high resolution cosmological numerical simulation of our Local Universe using constrained initial conditions which reproduce the observed matter distribution around our Milky Way galaxy. This simulation will be the most realistic representation of the formation and evolution of the Universe in which we happen to live. This will allow us to study many details of the dynamics of the Local Supercluster to which our Local Group of galaxies belongs.  We will also be able to study in detail the formation and evolution of the Local Group itself and its merging history. In addition, we will simulate with unprecedented resolution millions of galaxies, galaxy groups, and clusters of galaxies.
